EMPERÕR'S GUITAR LESSONS (BEGINNER)

Hi, my name is La Verne Thomas, also known as “The Emperor”.  I am a musician and songwriter from the Nature Isle of the Caribbean, Dominica. Music is my passion and it’s my dream to share it with the world.

Here’s a backstory of my journey:

Music has always been a part of my life. I grew up in church and that there is where my musical journey actually begun. I started singing in church at a very young age and first held the guitar at just the age of 8. My name, La Verne Phil Thomas, actually came from musicians Phil Driscoll and Laverne Tripp.

In 2010, I was taught basic guitar skills by one of my schoolmates. In fact, I actually used to practice my schoolmate’s sister’s toy guitar. I never stopped practicing and never gave up. Obviously, I wasn’t as good at the time, but I persisted and fell more in love with the guitar. One of my family members recognized how passionate I was about the guitar so he decided to fix my dad’s broken Electric Guitar and Amplifier so that I would be able to use it to practice. For this I am eternally grateful because this is where my journey really began. I learnt a lot of concepts and used YouTube to look at different videos of guitarists and lessons every day for many hours. This helped me to develop all the skills that I know today.

A year later, around 2011, My friends and I created a band. We regularly would play at home, in school and in church. We did it just for the fun and for the love of music of course. We were drawn to rock musicians like Greg Howe, Victor Wooten, Dennis Chambers, Tony Royster Jr and many more. Although we were very young at the time, we received a lot of praise from our peers and older folks because of our impressive skillset and our ability to entertain. The principal of my school at the time was really amazed at how well I played that he asked me to offer him guitar lessons, so I taught him how to play the guitar when I was just 14. In fact, he was my first student!

Over the years my skillset increased as I continued to practice. In 2019, I decided to write my first song ‘Leave Behind.’ My stage name originally was ‘DaKing’, but then I quickly changed it to “Emperõr” because I was more drawn to that name for many personal reasons. My first set of songs gave me a sense of peace and they kept me motivated. Although I was not as skilled as I am now, I persisted in learning the craft and I learned to incorporate my guitar into my songs as a unique way of performing. Many individuals have approached me about offering guitar classes so I finally decided to create a course to teach you everything I know.

In this 1st module, you will learn the parts of a guitar and how to hold a guitar. Also, you will learn different string names, strumming basics and finger placement. Additionally, you will learn how to tune your guitar, read chord boxes, basic popular chords and more!
